Performance
Acceleration from low speeds in a high gear can be pedestrian, but keep the Honda Civic 2.0-litre engine above 5500rpm and the Honda Civic Type R flies, accompanied by a race-car howl. For some people, that will be all part of the fun, but others may find it too much like hard work.

Ride & Handling
The Honda Civic is supple and controlled, yet it grips hard and attacks bends with real poise. The electric steering is sharp, too, and thanks to its limited slip differential, the limited-run Championship White model drives even better than the standard car.

Refinement
The Honda Civic Type R isn't as quiet as the most refined cars, but the engine is smooth and quiet, and remains in the background – until you want to hear it, when it has a spine-tingling howl. There is some road noise over poor surfaces, and the suspension clunks over bumps around town.
